At the death
of a Christian, whose life of faith was begun in the waters
of baptism and strengthened at the eucharistic table, the
Church intercedes on behalf of the deceased because of its
confident belief that death is not the end nor does it break
the bonds forged in life. The Church also ministers to the
sorrowing and consoles them in the funeral rites with the
comforting word of God and the sacrament of the eucharist.
Order
of Christian Funerals, Introduction
While
the death of someone close to us may bring grief and sorrow,
as Catholics, we also stand firm in our hope of eternal
life.
Those
responsible for preparing the funeral of a loved one can
often find themselves trying to attend to a number of responsibilities,
in addition to coping with their own feelings of grief and
loss. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish is able to assist
you in the preparation and celebration of a funeral.
Some
parishioners' funerals have even taken place during the
usual 9:00 a.m. Mass of a weekday. This allows parishioners
who knew them to join with the family and friends of the
deceased in prayer.
