The East Timor Committee is a group
of interested parishioners who share a common faith and vision
for the Carmelites in Timor Leste (East Timor). Underpinning our
mission is the recognition of the many historic, geographic and
spiritual links between our two nations. Our vision is to be a
proactive group concerned with the following on-going broad areas:
1. Spiritual support, visits and exchanges - to forge links on many levels between our two Carmelite communities.
2. Education - to focus on the East Timor
Committee, the OLMC parishioners and the wider community in order
to increase awareness of the issues facing the world's youngest
nation as a whole, the remote parish of Zumalai and the village
of Raimea in particular.
3. Regular communication, feedback and accountability -
to keep parishioners informed on East Timor issues, events, news
and progress on development projects. Integral to this process
is the ongoing dialogue with the Australian Co-ordinator of the
Carmelite Mission in East Timor.
4. Social justice issues - to raise awareness of the many
social justice issues facing the people of East Timor as a whole,
the remote parish of Zumalai and the village of Raimea in particular.
5. Supporting development - to centre on the Zumalai parish
and in particular the Raimea community through financial and other
means. This support will focus particularly on the area of education,
which is seen as the basis of future development.
6. Parish fund raising -to practically support development
projects and keep the needs of our sister parish in the minds
of the parishioners.
Through these means and others that the East Timor
Committee deems important, we seek to become a true sister community
to the Carmelites in East Timor by serving their needs and fulfilling
our mission in Christ. |
