In April, the The Carmelites of Australia and Timor-Leste gathered together for their triennial chapter. At each chapter they prayerfully consider their collective vocation and mission as prophetic contemplatives in the midst of the people. After discerning the future needs for their mission and ministry, the newly elected Prior Provincial and Council determine the makeup of each of their communities.
We can now advise that the following community appointments have been made for the next three years:
- Fr Janu and Fr Alby will continue to serve our parish community as Parish Priest and Assistant Priest respectively, and Fr Janu will continue as prior of the Carmelite community.
- Fr Anthony will continue as part of the Wentworthville Carmelite community, while Fr John Powell continues to be well cared for in aged care at Cardinal Gilroy Village, Merrylands.
- Fr Wayne Stanhope, who has been living at the Benedictine Abbey, Jamberoo, will conclude his ministry there as chaplain to return to parish ministry in the Carmelite Parish of St Joseph’s, Port Melbourne and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middle Park.
Let us pray in thanksgiving to God for the continued presence and ministry of the Carmelites in our parish, that they may be strengthened in their vocation, and supported by those they serve.
